“A society that celebrates women who get married and have kids, but equally shames women who don’t want those things- isn’t a society celebrating women. It is conditioning them.”

Director’s note:
Our story is both past and present because the themes of gender inequality and mental health struggles remain today. It is my intention to present Hedda is a product of her society, a tragic figure, and one who is more of a victim than a villain. Each person in this play, including Hedda herself, is capable of being both.
The challenges she faces, and the problems presented in this play have not been solved, they are ongoing.
Fortunately for us, we have access to support that Hedda did not.
